We offer guided accents up Mulhacen throughout the year. Please take a look below at the various times of year to see when would be most suitable for you.
Mulhacen has a summit of 3482m making it this the highest peak in continental Spain and the Iberian peninsular. Part of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, it is also the highest peak in Europe outside of the Alps. Its naming comes from the Spanish transcription of Muley Abul Hassan.
We only use the best experienced, professional and qualified guides. All our guides live and work in the Sierra Nevada and have done since 2002. Guides speak English and Spanish. We restrict winter accents to a maximum of 4 clients to each guide.
We start the summer accents from Mirador de Trevelez. A full 6 hour day walk taking in the West ridge and descending down the East ridge to Siete Lagunas.
A superb 1 day tour which obtains not only the highest peak in mainland Spain (3382m) but also the most spectacular lakeside location in the Sierra Nevada range at Siete Lagunas. Expect amazing views of the North faces!
Day 1
Ascend to Refugio Poqueira (2500m) which usually take around 4 hours via the Barranco de Poqueira (900m ascent). Here we stay the night at the Poqueira Hut. The hut is a guarded refuge which has beds, blankets, meals and wine. The perfect place to spend the night before ascending Mulhacen the next day.
Day 2
We start the ascent via the Rio Mulhacen, up to the Col del Ciervo which offers superb views over the magnificent north face. We carry on up the West flank to the summit. Return down the south ridge to the Refugio. Continuing back to your awaiting transport. We estimate the ascent time of around 4 hours, 1000m from the hut to the summit. Return to transport 5hrs.
The Refugio Poqueira is definitely the best guarded hut sleeping 84 situated on a shelf at 2500m above the Poquiera gorge. It is similar to a hostel providing good food and drink, beds and blankets in dormitory style accommodation.
We use the same itinerary as the Summer ascents except we will spend a night the Poqueira hut. Snow conditions may mean differing access points for the Refugio Poqueira.
We can provide all technical kit such as ice axe, crampons and sometimes even snowshoes, as well as basic information on how to use them should it be required.
We shall advise you beforehand of the type of clothing and equipment required. We do ask a minimum number 2 persons.
